Why is Civic Engagement important? Workplace Edition

This month, the equity community will center the importance of creating a workplace environment that encourages your employee's participation in the civic process.

Civic participation can take many forms. From the simple act of dialoguing with people in the community about the things that matter to them, to voting in local, state, and national elections, to participating in the process by advocating, agitating, and advancing policy prerogatives. Our facilitators will take the time to look at what civic participation is, what it looks like in the workplace, and the responsibility we each have to the well-being of our community.

It advances the simple idea that our voices mean a lot more when it is giving voice to, or amplifying the voices of the most invisible in our community.

Register to learn about civic participation and how to identify ways to implement civic engagement opportunities within your workplace from our Equity Labs facilitator Heather Renicker and MSW graduate intern Jessica Manzanillo.

The Equity Labs community hour is a space to explore what is possible when we activate our imaginations and take the small steps to live equity into being right now. This is a place to work on yourself and our world. All who are willing to be curious, courageous, and respectful of difference are welcome!
