Build your Information Ecosystem

Skill-Building Community Hour

How we engage with each other, and the world is largely influenced by the knowledge we consume. Knowing who and where your information comes from is critical in understanding what informs that knowledge. In today’s technology-driven world, consuming information daily, hourly, and even every minute, is a given. The important question to ask is who and what is informing your information ecosystem?

Just like an ecosystem in the environment, there are numerous components guiding the way the ecosystem functions. In our information ecosystems, we argue there are four networks that supply us with information:

  1. Network of people (family, friends, co-workers)

  2. Virtual network (social media)

  3. Source of news (CNN, BBC, New York Times, Fox News, local news channels)

  4. Other sources of knowledge and entertainment (books, television, podcasts, music, film)

During this skill-building community hour, MSW interns Jessica Manzanillo and Emma Baker will support you in evaluating your information ecosystem and collaborate with attendees to build strategies on how to diversify it.

The goal? Empower yourself and your community to learn, hear, and connect with different experiences, insights, and thought processes.
