The Intersection of Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace

What is Emotional Intelligence?

“The ability to recognize, understand, and deal skillfully with one’s own emotions and the emotions of others.”

  • Merriam-Webster Dictionary

We know that emotional intelligence (EI) has continued to play a large role in the workplace, especially in leadership and teamwork. Developing your own emotional intelligence is considered necessary to move forward in your career. This month, we want to explore emotional intelligence from an intersectional lens.

What does the practice of EI look like when considering the spectrum of identities? We are going to dive into EI and the common norms associated with it in the workplace.

You can expect to:

  • Learn about and acknowledge the different emotional intelligence responses and the way they present in different people

  • Learn how to identify the biases around emotional intelligence that occur

  • Develop strategies on how to disrupt those biases both within yourself and in relation to others

Join MSW Graduate Student Interns Priya Adhikari and Madison Miller on Wednesday, March 20 at 10 a.m. MDT for the discussion about the intersectionality of Emotional Intelligence in the workplace.
