Being American; Doing American

Following the 4th of July celebrations and in the last throes of a presidential election season we dive into the complicated idea of “Americanness.” As America evolves to include new ideas and new people, we consider a few things:

  • How do we honor and celebrate the original inhabitants of these lands and those who land on it anew?

  • As our workforce changes how do we hold competing and potentially harmful ideas of what it means to belong under the large and colorful canopy of American?

Join us and the DEIJ community on Tuesday, July 30 at 10:00 a.m. MDT where we will unpack the actions, beliefs, symbols, and ways of being associated with Americanness and complicate the construction of the idea.

Facilitated by Executive Director Chenthu Jayton, a newly minted “American” himself, we explore pathways to expand the idea of what it means to be and do American.
